A floating caliper has piston(s) on one side and slides back and forth on bushings or pins acting as a clamp. When you apply the brakes, the piston pushes the brake pad on the inboard side against the rotor. The caliper then slides on the bushings or pins and squeezes the outboard pad against the rotor. This causes the caliper to clamp" the rotor between the brake pads. With the piston(s) on the inboard side of the caliper it allows better clearance to the wheel as opposed to a fixed mount caliper.
A fixed caliper usually consists of 2,4,6 or even 8 pistons. A fixed caliper is mounted rigid to a bracket or spindle with no sliding pins or bushings in its mount. The fixed caliper consists of an equal number of pistons on both the inboard and outboard halves of the caliper. When you apply the brakes the pistons on both sides move at the same time and squeeze the pads against both sides of the rotor.

Our Extreme 4 piston caliper is a fixed 4 piston aluminum caliper. This caliper has been designed with features you will not find in other 4 piston calipers. Some of those features include Stainless Steel Pistons, Stainless Steel pad guides, off the shelf pads and anti-rattle clips and an internal dust seal to keep your oil seal free of debris. Our GT 4 Piston aluminum caliper was developed as a "Quick Change" replacement caliper for the factory disc brake 65-67 Mustangs, 65-69 Barracuda's, 65-72 Dart's and 65-72 Valiant's. The GT caliper uses all the same components as the factory caliper but in Stainless steel of course! This sleek aluminum caliper will allow you more stopping power and reliability over the stock units.
The Sport R1 caliper was developed as a 54mm single piston aluminum caliper with a built in parking brake. Two different versions have been developed, one for cars and one for truck. The car version consists of a forged aluminum housing with stainless steel internals. With an improved design over the popular early GM rear caliper, the Sport R1 caliper uses the same brake pads, slider pins and bushings as this vehicle. These parts were also commonly used on the Monte Carlos & Malibu's of the early ‘80's. The Sport R1 is one of the largest and most reliable rear car caliper on the market today!
The truck version of the Sport R1 (TRK1) features a larger billet aluminum housing, stainless steel internals and uses brake pads, slider pins and bushings from the front caliper of a 95-98 GM 1/2 ton truck. Current applications for this caliper are the 88-99 1/2 ton GM truck and SUV. A must have for better braking and elimination of that factory "spongy pedal" feel.
The Sport Twin 2 piston aluminum caliper was developed as a "Quick Change" direct replacement for GM's "G-Body" calipers. This 2 piston caliper has a forged aluminum housing with 2-38mm stainless steel pistons. Using the stock style G-body brake pads the 2 pistons of the Sport Twin caliper provide more clamping force and spread the load across the entire brake pad. The Super Twin 2 Piston caliper was developed as a "Quick Change" direct replacement for GM's Full size single piston calipers. These calipers were commonly used on the early GM A, F & X bodies and the 71 & up B-Body cars. This 2 piston caliper has a forged aluminum housing with 2-38mm or 2-43mm stainless steel pistons. The Tri-Power 3 piston aluminum caliper was originally developed as a "Quick Change" caliper to replace the 2 piston floating calipers on the C5 Corvette. Due its overwhelming success we decided to go one step further and make a Tri-Power caliper that would work for 1/2, ¾ & 1 Ton Trucks.
